Liquid Scintillation Detector

Установка LSD

   Жидкостный сцинтилляционный детектор LSD расположен в подземной лаборатории Института космогеофизики (Турин, Италия), которая находится в транспортном туннеле между Италией и Францией под г. Монблан (широта 45'51, долгота 6'54) на глубине 5200 м.в.э. Установка состоит из 72 сцинтилляционных счетчиков, размером 1,5х1,0х1,0 каждый. Счетчики разделены на три колонны по 24 счетчика в каждой. В колонне счетчики расположены на трех уровнях, по 8 счетчиков на уровне. Расстояние между уровнями – 40 см., между колоннами – 80 см.
   Для уменьшения фона, связанного с естественной радиоактивностью породы, каждый счетчик с боковых и нижней граней окружен слоем железа толщиной 2 см. Кроме того, вся установка с боковых сторон окружена 2,2-см слоем свинца и 22-см слоем борированного парафина для уменьшения нейтронного фона. Сверху установки находится 30-см слой борированного парафина, 2,5-см слой железа и 1-см слой свинца, снизу - 8-см слой борированного парафина.
